Frequently Asked Questions

Ask MasterCast Manufacturers

  • I'm familiar with the "cast polymer" products of Engineered Composites and solid surface, so what is MasterCast?
  • The same cast polymer molding process in which fillers and resin are mixed together and then cast into almost any size, shape, pattern, or color is used. Because recent technological advances have created a superior product competitive with almost every other competitive material, it has been branded as MasterCast by many manufacturers.
  • What sink options are offered?
  • MasterCast components can be produced in integral, drop-in, under mount, and vessel designs. There are many styles for each of these. Most manufacturers offer a wide variety of sink designs and sizes, and many are willing to customize shapes and styles upon request.
  • Does MasterCast need to be sealed?
  • Since the surface, unlike that of natural stone, is non-porous, it never requires sealing.
  • Why are some surfaces glossy and others are matte finished?
  • All Engineered Composites surfaces are gel-coated. This is a popular finish for bathroom areas because the shiny finish is associated with cleanliness. Solid surface, the preferred material for kitchen, is matte finished without a gel coat. It easily withstands normal wear in and avoids showing minor scratches.
  • What other products are available besides countertops?
  • Because of the molding and durability capabilities of MasterCast products, the selection is endless: shower surrounds and bases, whirlpool and soaking tubs, bath accessories, floor tiles, tabletops, columns, and gas fireplace accessories.
  • What countertop thicknesses are available?
  • Standard thickness for bathroom vanity tops is usually ¾" with 1½" thick for the more decorative edge treatments. Standard kitchen countertops are usually made 1½" thick. A good manufacturer will not laminate several ½" thick sheets together but will produce a product that is solid throughout.
  • I'm doing commercial installations. Are there limitations using MasterCast for complex designs?
  • The possibilities are vast. Multiple integral sinks in a countertop as small as 49" and at least as long as 144". Tops with holes to be used as a pass-through for trash or as a pull-through for facial tissues and paper towels. Toilet-stall surrounds and accessories. All offer innate antimicrobial properties, resistance to staining, chipping and breaking, easy cleaning, and simplified repairs.
