MasterCast Engineered Composites™ or MasterCast™ is the new umbrella term used to encompass the full range of cast polymer products, including Engineered Composites and solid surfaces used in a myriad of both household and commercial applications. The use of MasterCast products is widespread because of their attractiveness, durability, value, and antimicrobial properties.
MasterCast products are man-made, chemically-bonded, mineral-filled, polymeric materials. They are molded and hardened into a solid material in a variety of shapes that meet diverse design needs. The manufacturing process permits a range of uses almost impossible to achieve with quarried stone. And because these cast polymers are stronger and less brittle than quarried marble, and are more durable than porcelain, they are ideal for use at home, in hotels, restaurants, schools, offices, and healthcare facilities. MasterCast products are not only versatile in their application, but are also easy to maintain. Their one-piece, seamless construction is resistant to breakage. Thanks to their resistance to mildew and stains, and their antimicrobial properties, MasterCast products are easily cleaned with non-abrasive cleaning agents.
MasterCast products are versatile. Popular residential applications include counter tops, sinks, vanities, bathtubs, whirlpool baths, showers, shower enclosures, fireplace surrounds, window sills, wall panels, floor tiles, and molding accents. Commercial installation of MasterCast materials in hotels, restaurants, schools, offices, and healthcare facilities range from reception desks to examining rooms, from lockers to bathroom stalls. The possibilities are nearly limitless.
Products made by the MasterCast process include Engineered Composites and Solid Surface, each with its own unique properties.
Cultured Marble, Cultured Granite and Cultured Onyx, as their names imply, have the look of genuine marble, granite or onyx. By adding a small amount of natural marble, granite or onyx into production, Engineered Composites can successfully mimic the look of real stone but offer the advantages of custom shaping, design and color. These products are usually manufactured with a high-gloss coating, called a "gel coat", applied during the manufacturing process, which becomes an integral part of the cultured marble, granite or onyx product. Colorants may be added to the polymer/filler matrix in a manner, which provides a "veining" which mimics the appearance of natural products. The polymer casting process yields a rock hard, durable product which takes on the look and feel of the natural product.
Cultured marble, granite and onyx products easily meet nationally-recognized standards to resist water, heat, stains, burns, chemicals and everyday wear and tear.
Solid surface materials are also manufactured from polymeric materials. They have very high filler content and do not have gel coats. Using special equipment and fabrication procedures, solid surface materials can be machined like wood. They can be precisely cut and bonded to fit nearly any surface shape. Solid surface materials can also be routed for decorative edging that can be applied with specially formulated adhesives.
Granules may also be added to enhance the color effects. Solid surface materials are non-porous and homogeneous, with the same composition throughout the thickness of the solid surface material. They are capable of being repaired, renewed to the original finish, and fabricated into continuous surfaces with inconspicuous seams.
